The Process Protocol Workbook is now FREE and in the public domain. (below)
In September 2020, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill (AB) 890 (Wood, Chapter 265, Statutes of 2020) into law which created categories of Nurse Practitioners that can function within a defined scope of practice without Standardized Procedures. Standardized Procedures continue to be needed for those Nurse Practitioners that have not met the requirements. For those Nurse Practitioners who are required to continue to function under Standardized Procedures please note: The Workbook has only been updated when there has been a substantive change in the instructions for Standardized Procedures. The success of AB 890 aside, there have been no other substantive changes to the requirements for Standardized Procedures since 2012. As we understand the regulations in 2023, creating Standardized Procedures from the 2012 edition of the Workbook will continue to meet requirements in California.
Rebecca has retired and will no longer be updating The Process Protocol Workbook. If you have questions about standardized procedures, contact the CA BRN or the California Association of Nurse Practitioners (CANP). If you have questions about the Process Protocol Workbook itself, contact processprotocols@gmail.com.
THE PROCESS PROTOCOL WORKBOOK
The Process Protocol Workbook consists of a set of sample protocols for most of the typical functions a Nurse Practitioner performs. Each protocol has a corresponding Work Page with commentary about issues or questions raised by that protocol and which pertain to your setting and practice. By answering these questions and editing to fit your situation, you end up with a customized document that reflects your specific practice.
There are two files below: The Process Protocol Workbook as a PDF, and an editable document file. The editable document consists of only the protocols (without the Work Pages), and with blanks to fill in your specific information. In the Workbook PDF, the protocols and associated commentary are linked in both directions (links are blue). Links are also present for the footnotes. (The Preface in the 2021 edition refers to a CD with the document file – that file is now provided below.)
Depending on the device and browser you are using, a view of the PDF may show the title as “General Policies” – this is the full Workbook. Use side scrollbars to see all pages.
